CHOCOLATE FRUIT DIP

CHOCOLATE FRUIT DIP
Who loves Fruit Dip as much as me?? It’s this thing that all fruit NEEDS in my life. I adore this Healthier Chocolate Fruit Dip because it’s perfect for my sweet tooth cravings, yet I don’t have to feel guilty about eating it! It’s makes a great party dish too. Everyone always loves fruit and chocolate!

I have the ability to rationalize just about anything. Whether it’s a purchase from Target (I need those new bowls and plates for the blog; this is my job). Or that over the top four-cheese grilled cheese sandwich that I made for dinner last night (It’s a brisk 50° out. We need comfort food). Or that birthday trip to wine country that I’m trying to convince my husband that we should plan (He only turns 40 once! Right? Right?).

So, when it comes to dipping fruit in chocolate it should come as no surprise that I rationalized this from the very beginning.

HOW DO YOU MAKE CHOCOLATE FRUIT DIP?
This chocolate fruit dip starts with powdered sugar and cream cheese, which are whipped together to become light and fluffy. After that, a generous amount of melted chocolate goes into the mix.

I use semi sweet chocolate chips, but if you’re a milk chocolate fan, feel free to use them instead! I melt my chocolate in the microwave in 30 second increments until it’s melted and smooth, then let it cool down a bit before I add it to the cream cheese mixture.

The final step is to lighten up your dip with the addition of either whipped cream or whipped topping. I like to use whipped cream, but it does dirty up an additional bowl by whipping up the heavy cream. If you’re short on time or want to save on dishes, you can easily substitute whipped topping. Be sure to gently fold the whipped cream in so that the dip stays light and fluffy.

I like to serve my chocolate dip with an assortment of fresh fruit for dipping, like berries, kiwi, pineapple, bananas and apple slices. It’s amazing that a handful of ingredients and 5 minutes can create such a fun and delicious treat. This dip would even be great for birthday parties or other special occasions, sometimes I serve the fruit on skewers to increase the fun factor.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup powdered sugar , divided
  • 1 (8 oz) pkg cream cheese, softened
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl using an electric hand mixer, whip heavy cream until soft peaks form, addw 2 Tbsp of the powdered sugar and whip until nearly stiff peaks form. Set aside.
  2. In a separate mixing bowl whip together cream cheese, 1/4 cup + 2 Tbsp of the powdered sugar, the cocoa powder and vanilla extract until smooth. Mix in whipped cream mixture and remaining 1/2 cup powdered sugar.

Recipe Notes

  • The cream cheese should be softened to room temperature. Otherwise it won't whip up properly.
